SFCN – TiVo – HD – CableCard
Not too long ago I got a new TiVo HD. Since I live in Spanish Fork I naturally subscribe to the cable service from the city (SFCN). It works great, has great channel line-ups and the Internet is pretty good.
The downside I see that they I can't record any HD content. I DO receive the HD channels via my analog cable. It causes the local OTA channels to show up in the 100+ range. (i.e. OTA:5-1 = Cable:111-3).
I called TiVo to attempt to resolve this issue. They said the only way is with CableCARD's. They gave me a case number and let me know they would get it resolved for me.
Apparantly the FCC says that if a cable provider offers cable boxes (SFCN Does) that they are required to offer CableCARD's. A year ago, I asked sfcn via email and they indicated to me that they do not offer them.
Ugh. The question remains whether or not I jump ship to Comcast so I can have CableCARD's OR go with DirecTV and give up TiVo altogether (not really interested in that).
I guess time will tell how this goes. Hopefully John Bowcut from Spanish Fork City will get back to me with some good news.

Question for you – i am thinking about getting a tivo because i want a duel tuner and i don’t want to wait 4 weeks for a DVR , I want to be able to schedule stuff from online and be able to transfer stuff to my laptop when i travel. – besides the HD will a tivo work with out a hitch here in SF with SFCN?
Thanks

It absolutely will. Prior to HD, I used a Single tuner Series 2 for almost 2 years.
It works great. Online scheduling via Yahoo TV and TiVo.
Absolutely zero problems with SFCN and TiVo. (other than the whole cablecard thing)
